Barry Law Receives Eckerd Family Grant
The Law School is proud to announce that we have received a $778,000 three year grant from the Eckerd Family Foundation to create a Juvenile Justice Center. Following the release of a report last year that Florida’s delinquency system fails to provide children adequate legal representation, Barry University and Eckerd Family Foundation worked together on ways to improve the representation of children. The Juvenile Justice Center is the result of this collaboration. The Center will train lawyers and law students who represent children accused of crimes in Florida’s delinquency system.

We are proud of this new venture which will expand our Children and Families Clinic and allow us to work with juvenile public defenders around the State. Dean Diaz is deeply appreciative of all the work Gerry and other members in the clinic have done to make this happen. Joanna will lead the training efforts of this Center in partnership with two other non-faculty professionals who will join the clinical staff.
