Trial Team Makes Elite Eight at ABA National Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition in Chicago
Barry’s Trial Team capped off a phenomenal year with an Elite Eight finish (out of 20 teams) at the ABA National Criminal Justice Trial Advocacy Competition in Chicago. In all, since last March, the Trial Team advanced to two Elite Eights, six Final Fours, four Finals, and won two championships. Advancing at all in even one competition, in the extremely competitive arena of Trial Team tournaments, is difficult.

The ABA team consisted of Ben Smith and Margaret Garner as swing advocates, and Joe Lawrence and Lexie Kardon as swing witnesses. Barry defeated William & Mary in the first round, narrowly lost to St. John’s in the second round, and finished two and one by beating King’s Inn (from Ireland) in the third round. Margaret earned a perfect scorecard in one round.

All of these students worked quite hard, along with their Coach, Prof. Mark Summers, and were essential to the success of this team.
